College Football Playoff Breaking down p

We are from the unveiling of the first set of College Football Playoff rankings on Ozzie Smith Jersey Nov. 5. That will be the backdrop and the build-up for the potential "Game of the Century" between No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama on Nov. 9.That won't change, knowing six of the 13 Power 5 schools with one lo s or fewer are on a bye this week. Each week, Sporting News will look at the best Playoff path for the top contenders remaining in November. Here is a closer look at those 13 teams. ...MORE: Prime Playoff positionLSU (8-0) and Alabama (8-0)If the Playoff rankings were released today, then the Tigers would be No. 1 by virtue of three victories against top-10 teams (Texas, Auburn and Florida). That strength of schedule if the Tigers slip up against the Crimson Tide at Bryant-Denny Stadium: LSU would still have the best resume as a one-lo s team. All Alabama must do is win at home, no matter who the starting quarterback is, to retake the top spot in the AP Top 25. will be a hot topic of conversation after the first rankings, as the committee does take injuries into account. Would the committee give the Crimson Tide the benefit of the doubt if they lost to LSU and Tagovailoa didn't play? That remains to be seen. Still, a one-lo s Alabama would be at the front of the line despite a questionable strength of schedule to this point. There's a good chance both teams end up in the Playoff if the game is close think a one-po se sion outcome and they both win out afterward.Ohio State (8-0) and Penn State (8-0)The unbeaten Big Ten teams clash on Nov. 23. You can make a case the Buckeyes, which have an FBS-best point differential of 323, are the best team in the country. Vince Coleman Jersey They also have the luxury of three more big games in Penn State, Michigan and in the Big Ten championship game.Penn State plays unbeaten Minnesota on Nov. 9: a chance for a third victory against a ranked team before what should be a winner-takes-the-East showdown with the Buckeyes two weeks later. Remember the scenario where two-lo s Big Ten champion Penn State beat one-lo s Ohio State in 2016 but the ? That won't happen this time. The winner of this game will get in the Playoff as long as they take care of busine s with the rest of the schedule.Clemson (8-0)The Tigers could conceivably be relegated to the next category of Playoff contenders, but they're so clearly ahead of every other ACC team it might not even warrant discu sion. Clemson will get in the College Football Playoff if it finishes undefeated, regardle s of what happens around the team in the middle-of-the-road ACC. The Tigers should root for Wake Forest to stay ranked, but there's no way the committee is going to Lou Brock Jersey leave out an undefeated defending national champion on a 29-game win streak if it comes to that. Still, Clemson might want to stay unbeaten to avoid the uncomfortable one-lo s conversations.MORE: Lose one, and you're outMinnesota (8-0) and Baylor (7-0)The Gophers and Bears are both undefeated, but the committee will cro s them off if they lose one game or, at least, make it extremely difficult for them to get into the Playoff.Baylor's nonconference opponents have a combined record of 4-19, and that's includes FCS opponent Stephen F. Austin. The Bears have to go through Texas and Oklahoma in November. That will help, but it's likely they have to run the table to get in.Minnesota's best win is a 28-21 victory against FCS powerhouse South Dakota State. The Gophers can prove it against Penn State, Iowa and Wisconsin in November, followed by the winner of the Big Ten East in the conference title game. They will be held to the same standard as the Hawkeyes in 2015 and Badgers in 2017: That means it's undefeated or bust.One-lo s teams that need each otherUtah (7-1) and Oregon (7-1)The Pac-12 was left for dead early in the season, but Oregon and Utah are top-10 teams still in the conversation in November. The Yadier Molina Jersey best scenario the Pac-12 can hope for is for the Ducks and Utes to finish the regular season undefeated, setting up a conference title game between one-lo s teams that isn't an afterthought on the national stage. If both teams have one lo s heading into that game, then the winner will have an argument for one of the Playoff spots.Georgia (6-1) and Florida (7-1)Georgia and Florida meet this week in the undercard to the LSU-Alabama game, and the winner will likely represent the SEC East in the conference championship game. Yes, the winner of "The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party" will make the Playoff if they win out; but they should root for the loser of Saturday's game to win out as well, just in case they need to point to their strength of schedule. Keep in mind neither team plays Alabama the team all by which all SEC are teams are judged in the regular season.MORE: One-lo s teams that need help (or a miracle)Oklahoma (7-1)The Sooners are still the best bet to win the Big 12 championship, but that is going to haunt them later. Oklahoma should root for Alabama to beat LSU, then for LSU to lose again so they don't get caught in a one-lo s argument with the Tigers (). It also wouldn't hurt if Oregon and Utah lost again, before the Pac-12 championship game. The Sooners have made a run to the Playoff as a one-lo s team three times, so their eligibility isn't out of the question. But it's going to be a little more difficult this time.Wake Forest (6-1)That the Demon Deacons are still in the conversation is a nod to Dave Clawson's coaching Matt Wieters Jersey acumen. Wake Forest plays at Clemson on Nov. 16, and that would be the chance to prove it can win the ACC. Wake Forest hasn't beat a ranked team, however, and their three ACC victories are by six points or fewer. The Demon Deacons would have a case at 12-1 and a win over Clemson, but there's a long way to get there.
